What I love to do when I don't coach

When not coaching I have had the opportunity to work with high performing teams in professional services. Bringing the best out of people and helping them achieve their goals in sports and professional endeavours is a truly rewarding experience. When I don't coach I love to:

  • Coffee and a good book - Athletics biographies, Psychology and Finance
  • Listen to TED Talks and many other Podcasts - great in the car
  • Eat great food - one of the benefits of burning all that energy!
  • Plan the next session

MEMORABLE RUNNING AND COACHING EXPERieNCES

  • Pacing a blind man around a marathon, and describing every step of the way
  • Frozen eyebrows running in a northern winter
  • Meeting people at Parkrun - they're more sociable at the back of the field and the stories are inspiring too
  • Pacing the 3 hour group at Gold Coast marathon, truly humbling to see goals met

Running philosophy

With a passion for reading and learning I am an avid reader of sports biographies and coaching philosophies. Rather than adopting a one size fits all approach it has highlighted the need to provide a personally tailored experience to each and every athlete. We're all unique and need to be treated as such. Some great reads if you want inspiration and insights:

  • Milers - Lovelock, Cunningham, Bannister,  Delany, Elliott, Snell, Jazy, Ryun, Walker, Coe, Ovett, Cram and Scott
  • Distance - Zatpoek, Pirie, Halberg, Schul, Clarke, Taylor, Fster, Coghlan, Moorcrodt, Gebresalassie, Farah
  • Marathon - Adcocks, Clayton, Hill, Rodgers, Spedding, Moller, Salazar, Deek, Monners, Tergat, Radcliffe

Coaches

  • Coe, Martin, Lydiard, Cerutty, Stampfl, Nerurkar, Temple, Watts, Horwill, Wilson, Sunderland, Shorter, Daniels,
  • Elliott, Galloway, Pftzinger, Benson, Fixx, Noaxkes, Fordyce
  • And my own personal coaches

And much more!
